Echoes Toward the Stargate unfolds at the 2025 Ars Electronica Festival as an exhibition on signal reverberation, perceptual reconstruction, dimensional linkage, and future consciousness. It inquires into how media art may become a syntactical interface—piercing through material boundaries and summoning latent dimensions. From the stargate myths of ancient civilizations to science fiction cinema and contemporary AI projects, the “stargate” endures as a portal to the unknown, perpetually calling forth the longing for another order. Media art becomes a dimensional aperture within the computational cosmos—actively composing the schematics of new worlds and delineating fresh cosmic coordinates that draw the observer into spatiotemporal channels capable of being encoded and fed back.
At the same time, the exhibition situates the questions of media and perception within the context of contemporary global politics: from the colonial and Cold War legacies that positioned Taiwan at the forefront of technological strategy, to its current role in the global semiconductor and communications technology supply chain, the island continues to resonate and respond amid geopolitical and technological turbulence—becoming a site where echoes converge.
Here, the “stargate” is at once a romantic passage to the cosmos and a site entangled within the nexus of technology, perception, and politics. Its reverberations carry both the residues of the past and the summons of the future. We traverse these passages not only to arrive after a long journey, but also to awaken the repressed senses within the body. Technology becomes the summoner, transmitter, and encoder of what has yet to occur; each reverberation is a possibility of penetration.
「Echoes Toward the Stargate(向星門的迴聲)」為於「2025林茲電子藝術節」展開關於訊號回響、感知重構、維度連結與未來意識的展覽,探問媒體藝術如何成為穿透物質、召喚出可能維度的語法介面。從古文明中的星門神話,到科幻電影與當代人工智慧計劃,星門作為通往未知的門扉,始終召喚著對另一種秩序的渴望。媒體藝術除了映照現實,亦主動地為組構新世界的基模,劃出新的宇宙座標,使觀察者進入可以被編碼與反饋的時空通道。
同時,將媒體與感知的問題置回當代全球政治的語境之中:自殖民與冷戰以降,台灣從被定位技術略的前線,到當前以晶片、通訊技術的供應鏈網路,在全球技術與政治波動中持續震盪與回應,使其成為一回聲的作響之地。
因此,「星門」為通往宇宙的浪漫奇想,也是技術—感知—政治纏結下的權力場域;其前方迴盪的,既有過去的殘響,亦有對未來的召喚。我們穿行其中,既為了在漫漫旅途後到達,亦為喚醒身體中被壓抑的知覺;技術成為召喚尚未發生的傳送與編碼者,每一道餘響,都是穿透的可能。
